Post-Graduation Planning

Post-Graduation Planning

A humanities education offers students a range of career paths, and at the same time, an opportunity to make meaningful contributions to society. The knowledge and skills gained through the humanities -- things like critical thinking, analytical writing, or the ability to engage fundamental questions of culture, politics and ethics -- are increasingly in demand across a range of sectors, as organizations grapple with the complex challenges of our interconnected world.

At John Jay we weave post-graduation planning into all stages of the transfer experience. We integrate career data into recruitment efforts and transfer welcome events, and support efforts to integrate experiential learning and internships into the humanities curriculum.

In Partnership with the Center for Career and Professional Development, we also map the sectors to which humanities graduates bring transferable skills: not only traditional post-graduation paths such as graduate school or law school, but also in education, health care, public policy, and criminal justice reform. In all these areas, John Jay's focus on "Educating for Justice" uniquely prepares students to apply a humanities lens to contemporary issues.
