Welcome to the English Department at John Jay College of Criminal Justice
Routinely honored for its outstanding teaching, mentoring and service to students, John Jay’s English Department is home to a nationally recognized and award-winning Writing Program, world-renowned poets, novelists, and scholars, and a community of lively and engaged students preparing for careers in law, education, public policy, business, writing, and communications.
We offer a B.A. in English with an optional concentration in Literature and the Law and participate in the B.A. in Humanities and Justice Major. We also offer minors in Creative Writing, Digital Media and Journalism, English, Film Studies, and Latina/o Literature.
The English Department is also home to the Sentinel, the college’s student newspaper, John Jay’s Finest, the college’s journal of outstanding student writing, the Quill, a journal of student creative writing and art, and J Journal, an international journal featuring creative writing on the theme of justice.
