Richard Hoehler

Richard Hoehler is an adjunct professor in the Theatre Department. He received his B.A. in Theatre from Hope College and trained professionally with Jack Garfein, Gene Frankel, and Mercedes Ruehl. He has created four Off Broadway solo shows: I of the Storm, New Jersey/New York, Working Class (OOBR Award-Best Solo Performance), and Human Resources (Best of the Fest). His newest solo piece, E, has been featured at The Cornelia Street Café, Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, the Brooklyn Commons, and the Lounge at Hudson View. Other acting stage work: Rehearsing the Wannsee Conference, HAIR (55+), The Rubber Room, Inadmissible, Day of the Dad (Best Actor in a Lead Role), Rounding Third, K2, and Kalighat. Television: NYPD Blue, Law and Order, Criminal Intent, Third Watch (recurring), The Black Box. For twenty-six years Richard helmed the Creative Writing Workshop Program at Random House teaching acting classes and leading writing workshops at inner city high schools. He is the director of the Theatre Workshop at Otisville State Prison where he teaches weekly acting classes and has mounted seven productions over the past twelve years. Richard also teaches at HB Studio where he founded Acting Out, a professional acting class for the formerly incarcerated.
