1. Who may apply for a fellowship?
A. Any student, graduate student or recent alum may be eligible to apply for a fellowship. Each fellowship opportunity is different. Some opportunities are specifically tailored for juniors while others are aimed towards recent alumni. Think about what types of opportunities might interest you: Are you interested in a summer internship program? Are you considering pursuing a master’s degree? Are you interested in living or studying abroad? Think about those questions and make an appointment with an advisor in the Office of Fellowship & Scholarship Opportunities to discuss what opportunities might be available to you.
2. When should I apply for a fellowship?
A. Early. Never wait until the last minute to apply for a fellowship. Review the application for the fellowship to which you are applying. Set a deadline for yourself to submit the application that is at least several days, preferably weeks, prior to the application deadline.
3. Is there a GPA requirement to apply for a fellowship?
A. Some fellowships have a GPA requirement, which is often a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher, while other opportunities do not. It is important to read any information provided by the fellowship opportunity to see if you are required to to have a specific GPA to be eligible.
4. Do I need to be a United States citizen to apply for a fellowship?
A. It depends on the fellowship. Many fellowship opportunities do require that you be a United States citizen or a permanent resident in order to be eligible to apply. However, there are opportunities available for international students. Make an appointment with a fellowship advisor to discuss if you are not sure whether you are eligible for a specific opportunity.
5. What is the difference between a scholarship and a fellowship?
A. Often the two words are used interchangeably. Scholarships generally only refer to opportunities that will provide financial support for you to pursue an education, whether it be an undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate program. Fellowships often encompass scholarships but tend to include additional components, such as the completion of a specific project or work experience.

A. Absolutely! In fact, we encourage you to do so.
