The Wellness Resource Services program is committed to providing the John Jay students and their households with a net of resources, tools, and direct services needed to alleviate financial distress, gain access to socio economic mobility. attain higher education and financial Self-sufficiency.
Navigating Access to Public Benefits:
Students and their households are able to complete benefit screening with a Wellness Resource Services representative to verify eligibility for one or multiple forms of public benefits.

John Jay College of Criminal Justice is one of the (12) sites selected to be a participant of the HRA Bronx Pilot Program. This program allows students and their households to apply specifically for SNAP, Public Assistance and Emergency Cash Assistance by scheduling an appointment with a Wellness Resource Services representative which reduces the many barriers many families face when applying at an HRA Job Center.
In partnership with HRA, John Jay works with an Outreach Community Liaison through the Department of Social Services to continue the efforts of resolving HRA obstacles on case by case basis. Students are able to meet with the Outreach Community Liaison every 4th Wednesday of the month between 1:00PM to 3:00PM.
Legal Assistance
John Jay Wellness Resource Services provides legal counseling services in partnership with Legal Aid Society to meet with students as well as household members regarding legal matters, including:
- Free legal advice and representation
- Housing law & eviction prevention
- Immigration law
- Family law
- Help obtaining government benefits
- Disability Law
- Employment Law
- Foreclosure
- And More…
Legal Counseling is available through virtual appointments.
Financial Counseling
John Jay Wellness Resource Services provides financial coaching services in partnership with New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) to meet with students to learn more about financial options, including:
- One-on-one, personalized assistance
- Ongoing- help with creating a budget
- Identity Theft
- Managing student debt
- Understanding your credit report
- Building and Fixing your credit
- Finding the right bank for you
- Plan for your future.
Students will gain the tools, resources and services to achieve financial stability and self-sufficiency. Financial Counseling is available through virtual appointments.
Emergency Funding Programs
Under Emergency Funding students can apply for short-term financial assistance programs such as:
- Emergency Funding Grant
- Emergency Metro Card
- Emergency Food Vouchers
- Emergency Book Vouchers
- Emergency Backpacks
Tax Preparation
The Wellness Resource Center offer John Jay students free tax preparation from January - April
